The 550-HP Cadillac CT6-V Is Coming
January 15, 2019Cadillac’s CT6 is apparently not dead: On Monday, the company announced a preorder program for the new twin-turbo V8-equipped CT6-V and told Automotive News that it’s looking for a way to keep the car on sale in the U.S. In late November, parent automaker GM said it was closing five North American plants, including the one that builds the CT6 luxury sedan.
Regardless of plants and restructuring, the CT6-V will go on sale in mid-2019, starting at $88,790 before destination. It will feature the company’s new Blackwing 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 making around 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. That price includes tuition and accommodation for a two-day stay at the Cadillac V-Performance Academy at Spring Mountain in Nevada.
“The 2019 CT6-V marks the expansion of the V-Series sub-brand and is the proof point of Cadillac’s commitment to build high-performance vehicles as we continue our product offensive,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “Fans of Cadillac will see high-performance variants across our portfolio.”
The “high-performance variants” line we can get behind, and we’re glad there’s reason to be optimistic about the CT6’s future after all. We’ll find out more after GM meets with the UAW (which it must do when closing a plant) later this year.
The CT6, by the way, was third in sales for large luxury cars last year, trailing the company’s own aging XTS and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
